HR vs speed ratio colour hints in the Activities list give you quick feedback on how your running activities are trending in terms of aerobic fitness or how efficiently your body is working.

Here are a few things to consider when interpreting the HR vs speed hints:

  • The darker the green dot, the stronger the ratio is in the context of your own training - i.e. the faster you run at the same heart rate

  • The colour of the hint changes when you change the time frame or select a specific type of run - this way you can see your strongest runs within a specific time or when comparing specific types of runs (e.g. filtering out races)

  • The HR vs speed hint is only shown for running activities and only if you have added average heart rate

  • Note: The HR vs. speed hint colour represents the full ratio. For example, while 0.0228 and 0.0227 are both displayed as 0.023 in Activities, 0.0227 is shown with a lighter green colour to indicate that it is slightly lower.

It is better to look at the overall trend line of HR vs speed rather than follow specific numbers. Keep in mind, that since heart rate is highly individual, HR vs speed ratio is also highly individual and can be compared in the context of the same runner, not to others. HR vs speed tends to be lower in certain conditions (cold, snow, extreme heat, trails, high altitude) and higher with more high intensity training.
